Give him a mic, let him make a fool of himself, laugh him off stage. Watching Columbia students literally start giggling when he tried to argue there are no homosexuals in Iran was a priceless moment — but getting him in a high-profile position in front of international cameras where he tried to argue that there were no homosexuals in Iran is a major diplomatic coup.
When powerful men with maniacal views get put in forums where they’ll be aggressively challenged, we win. Ahmadinejad got rolled by Columbia, and I have to think the ranks of “leftists” who romantically associate his aggressive anti-Americanism with some sort of socialist/progressive agenda thinned considerably while watching him speak.

Apparently giddy from their triumph in squashing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s trip to Ground Zero, they set their outrage phasers to “pearl clutch” and directed their ire to Columbia University, where the New Hitler spoke and held a Q&A cession. But they mightn’t have bothered, since after a blistering introduction by CU President Lee Bollinger, Mahmoud proceeded to make a complete ass of himself. His claims about women’s rights and the lack of gays in Iran were met with the only howls they truly deserved: laughter. [...]
Agreed whole-heartedly. The people who oppose Mahmoud the most should have been the most glad to force him to defend his views, but to no surprise were arguing with no actual knowledge of the situation.
