As you probably have found, Googling a paraphrase of the quote is of no help. My suggestion is to find out when the first episode is being rerun on your PBS station, and it will be rerun, and have a tape player handy. Good luck.

There was a quote in the opening which stated something like: The War started with bittnerness, but ended with courage. Does anybody know how I might obtain that quote. I am working on a paper for a college class and that is a perfect quote for my paper. Thanks, Daniel (Mobile, AL)

The familiarity of the format did, like Shaun says, flirt with a “beem there, done that’ aura. By the end, though, I changed my mind.

The familiar format accented the sense of history. I felt it enhanced the impact of the personal testimonies by survivors, both civilian and military
A more flashy, theatrical treatment might have seemed intrusive to the point of taking attention away from the subject matter the ’star’.of the show being war and ithe people it touches.

I thought the documentary was riveting and emotionally wrenching.
