Russia has reportedly tested the most powerful “vacuum” bomb in the world — a bomb that reportedly equals a nuclear bomb…and most assuredly will scare cats:
“Test results of the new airborne weapon have shown that its efficiency and power is commensurate with a nuclear weapon,” Alexander Rukshin, deputy head of Russia’s armed force chief of staff, told Russia’s ORT First Channel television.
“You will now see it in action, the bomb which has no match in the world is being tested at a military site,” the report said.
It showed a Tupolev Tu-160 strategic bomber dropping the bomb over a testing ground. A large explosion followed.
According to the report, the vacuum bomb is a kind of fuel-air explosive. It’s dropped or fired and the first explosive explodes open the container at X height, and then fuel is mixed with oxygen in a cloud. The second charge ignites the cloud, which essentially engulfs buildings and anything else.
And if this depresses you, the cloud DOES have a silver lining:
“At the same time, I want to stress that the action of this weapon does not contaminate the environment, in contrast to a nuclear one.”
Thank GOD that if one of these is dropped and we’re sucked into nothingness the environment will still be pure…
Why couldn’t the Buddha vacuum under the sofa?
He had no attachments.
Glorious News, Comrades!
To: All Russian people
From: Head Fish Kisser
Close on heels of huge success of our one-way submersible submarine glorious Kursk, we are proud to announce our newest super-weapon. Unmatchable super vacuum bomb will strike fear into hearts of …
I noticed the environmental line, too. I never really had turned previously to bomb makers for an environmental analysis — or Russia. I wonder if they are going to buy carbon offsets for each one they drop.
They’re off! Arms Race 2!
Next they’ll be trumpeting their discovery of the miraculous steam-powered APC.
And it even actually explodes sometimes, proving the superiority of Russian technology! It’s just another FAE device, if a big one. So big they have to use their biggest bomber to carry it, and it can only carry two of them, max, if my memory of the Blackjack’s capacity is accurate. Russia has only a dozen or so Blackjacks in operational condition.
Comparable to nuclear? Not even close. Claimed yield is 40 TNT-ton equivalents–but that’s just a claim, and likely exaggerated. By comparison, the Hiroshima bomb was 13,000 TNT-ton equivalents, over 300 times the claimed yield of the new FAE.
Environmentally friendly? How environmentally friendly is ANY bomb inside the blast radius?
> It’s just another FAE device, if a big one.
No surprise to some of us. I’m surprised the few Usual Suspects who realize it’s an FAE device don’t revive the “thermobaric weapon” phrase and wonder if this won’t also be used in Grozny. (How to solve the problem of urban warfare? Remove the urban character.) Come to think of it, maybe if it makes the terrorists in Chechnya nervous along with the activists, that’s a good thing, heh, heh.
> Environmentally friendly?
Think “Green Plowshare” as well as “Grozny.”
Russia proved again it is a silent killer. The impact of this will be felt soon.
It will change previously existing perceptions completely.
again the era of showing real toughness is started
