High schools try to prepare everyone for college, but there are many who do not want to attend college. Years ago high schools had classes that taught individuals that did not want to attend college skills they could use in a trade. Today those classes are all but extinct. You now have to attend community college or a trade school to get some education in the trades.

And one needs to check the salaries offered to those that can work on vehicles, plumbing, electical and especially mechinist and tool and die makers. Many of these trades have a steady work week and salaries that exceed a large number of jobs requiring a college degree.

But I ask who is going to reverse the trend and take us back to the days that those that wanted to attend college took college prep classes and took the SAT, while those that wanted to become a master craftsman took classes to propare them for that craft and did not take the SAT? How many jobs would be on the line if fewer kids took college prep classes? I don’t see much change coming in my lifetime.
