Ledeen has long been obsessed with Iran. However, some specific points of contention from the review of Ledeen's book.

1 - His contention that Al Qaeda relies on Iran for all it's support is hyperbole to the extreme. As far as anyone can tell most Al Qaeda rely on Pakistan. Please note the German's who were caught were trained in Pakistan. Furthermore the Sunni-Shite split between Al Qaeda and Iran would argue against anything but the most tangential cooperation. Remember, Bin Ladin hates the Shia.

2 - Ledeen's contention that Iran helped the Taliban and Al Qaeda escape to Iran based on one Time Magazine article from 2002. It seems like if they did go to Iran they have been VERY quiet. All the infiltration is coming from Pakistan - not Iran. Remember, it was Iran who helped make the Afgan Conference in Bonn successful.

Ledeen makes all sorts of accusations against Iran but offers NO PROOF. It's all conjecture and circumstantial.

3 - Ledeen supports the MEK who are as ruthless a bunch of terrorists as any roaming the globe today.

4 - If you look at most of the terror suspects that have been caught in the US and Europe, the one constant was training in Afganistan and/or Pakistan - not Iran.

5 - Iran's support for Hezballah and Hamas is for their so called freedom from oppression. Whether you agree with it or not, it's no different from our support of "freedom fighters" in Central America during the 80's or our current support for Iranian insurgents.

I don't happen to like the Iranian regime but then again there are a lot of regimes I don't like. It drives me crazy when people like Ledeen can advocate insurgencies and terrorism against people and countries we don't like but abhors when others do it to us. Our shock and awe delivered from 30,000 feet is no different than theirs delivered from 3 feet.

Ledeen has an agenda and he will do everything in his power to see that it happens, even if he has to bend the truth.
