Original Blog Interview: Melanie Morgan

Susan Duclos of Wake Up America had the opportunity to interview Melanie Morgan, chair(wo)man of Move America Forward, a pro-war organization. A part of the interview published at Susan’s blog, is also published at the Washington Times (Susan is a freelancer for them).

Read the interview, it is a good and interesting read from the pro-war / pro-surge perspective. I do not agree with everything said, and neither I bet will you, but as always we have to be able to listen to all sides of the debate to be able to draw our own conclusions. For an opposing view, I’d say go here and here.

I didn’t see anything even resembling a logical justification for most of her positions. There was a lot of “media bias is bad” and “Democrats only want defeat” but very little in the way of reasonable discourse. And the interviewer never asked challenging questions or dug deeper into Ms. Morgan’s rationale for her views. I personally disagree with the notion that the war in Iraq is an either/or situation. Victory if we stay or Defeat if we leave. That’s just nonsense and it prevents people from really looking at the mess we’ve gotten into in a logical way, and maybe it keeps us from finding a way to fix things. The way Ms. Morgan frames the debate is offensive and counter-productive. Of course supporting the troops is a good thing, but that does not mean blindly accepting every war-related decision made in the Oval Office.

I’m glad Melanie Morgan was being interviewed and not doing the interview! That could have been painful for the person being interviewed to say the least.

She is, to be succinct, one of the most dishonest shills on the planet. Her dishonesty has been thoroughly documented time and time again.

Hopefully in the near future only wingnut bloggers will be providing a forum for her hateful, yet incredibly silly rhetoric.

Obviously, that day has yet to come. But I still hold out hope.

  3. Well, I see it was quite incorrect for me to assume that everyone is able to “listen to all sides of the debate to be able to draw our own conclusions.” Instead the message is that this should not have been posted, or so it seems correct me if I’m wrong, on this site. Well, sadly, The Moderate Voice also stands for different opinions and for a willingness to listen to everyone. Besides that, I link to two posts at Crooks and Liars as to give people some background information if they so wish.

And I hold out hope Davebo that people like you would stop complaining about who posts what and instead would focus on the issues.

Michael – I don’t mind the posting of conservative views, even VERY right wing views. I read on a daily basis Powerline, Hewitt, Malkin, RedState, Lucianne, Polpundit, BelmontClub, LGF, NRO etc. I do it so I understand, at least partially, where they are coming from even though 90% of the time I don’t agree with them.

Unfortunately, the interview with Melanie Morgan was primarily a whine about those meany leftists. The balance was a PR job for her organization. There was NO MEAT in the article. So what are we to comment about????? If it was the death threats she was worried about – welcome to the internet. My views on Israel have earned me dozens of death threats both by e-mail and telephone.

So Michael, after agreeing with one of your posts yesterday, I have to vote today that this interview was an essentially worthless addition to a rational debate on Iraq policy.

Who here even insinuated that this should not have been posted Michael? I certainly can’t find a scintilla of evidence upon which to draw such a conclusion.

But back to the actual post as opposed to your obviously hurt feelings, what part of Mrs. Morgan’s statements do you agree with?

I honestly would enjoy discussing that.

“And I hold out hope Davebo that people like you would stop complaining about who posts what and instead would focus on the issues.”

As to this. I didn’t complain about the post, nor who posted it.

It seems you are predisposed to making up such things about me.

So let’s review. No comment suggested you should not have made this post. And since you saw fit to call me out by name, please retract and apologize for the insinuation that I somehow complained about who posted the post.

Neither of those events occured here. And I’m insulted by your accusation that they did. In the future, take the time to actually read my comments before you decide what I actually said (or meant).

  7. Davebo says:

Just to clarify, when I wrote this.

Hopefully in the near future only wingnut bloggers will be providing a forum for her hateful, yet incredibly silly rhetoric.

I was referring to actual news outlets such as CNBC, WorldNetDaily, MSNBC, and of course, KSFO.

  8. C Stanley says:

    Davebo,
What did you mean by your last two paragraphs in comment #2, if not that you don’t feel Melanie Morgan deserves a forum here at TMV? I can’t figure out any other interpretation of that comment.

  9. C Stanley says:

My comment cross posted with your last one, Davebo. I’m glad you saw fit to explain that, but it seems to me that in recognizing the need to clarify you should also acknowledge that your indignation at Michael is a bit misplaced. Since you didn’t make it clear that you were criticizing mainstream media for covering her, and in fact you linked to a “right wing” blog, it certainly seemed more logical that you were voicing complaint against Michael for posting this here.

  10. Davebo says:

C Stanley, see my last comment.

As much as I enjoy TMV, it’s not on par with the other media venues which give air time or print space for Mrs. Morgan.

  11. Davebo says:

I apologize if I didn’t make myself clear in my original post. I’d hoped that by linking to Media Matters list of mainstream publications and media that have provided time to Mrs. Morgan my intent would be obvious.

However, in retrospect since both Michael and C Stanley apparantly didn’t make the connection I must not have been clear.

    However, my point stands.

  12. Ok – that’s clear then. Well, I agree with Morgan when she says that she US shouldn’t withdraw yet from Iraq :D

  13. egrubs says:

Is anyone who says the US shouldn’t withdraw from Iraq is printable? What makes this article more valuable than others (to continue Davebo’s question)?

  14. Davebo says:

Well I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. And it’s certainly not worth hashing out in this comment thread!

  15. domajot says:

Just for the record, I read Davebo’s comment the same way pre-clarification as post-clarification.
