Craig pled guilty after months of thinking about it. He had access to the best lawyers, but chose not to consult one. Under those circumstances, I highly doubt that he would have made the choices that he did if he were innocent. More likely, he thought if he paid the fine, the whole thing would just go away, as the arresting officer had promised not to go to the media. And no one would have known if Roll Call hadn't broken the story, followed by the article in the Idaho Statesman.

Craig's alleged indiscretions are definitely problematic for the GOPers with the Presidential election approaching. This is owing primarily to their campaigning so heavily in recent past on moral issues and, whether intentionally or by default, giving voters the impression the GOP candidates are more moral than candidates from other parties. The greatest public relations challenge for the party may now be how to spin the appearance of hypocrisy as the voting public realizes that GOP candidates are human, and just as prone to "sin" as are candidates from other parties. Expect dramatic and prompt political action by the party in an attempt to distance itself from Craig. One question that isn't being asked is whether Craig is really guilty - what if he's telling the truth?

Rumor: Perverted Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) To Resign Soon...

Of course, everybody’s following this one. While it’s a fairly normal occurance these days for a high-ranking Washington politician to engage in perverted and criminal activities, it’s not every day one of them just quietly admits hi...

e’d be a boon more to the comedians than to GOPers in Ohio.

Errm, I suppose you mean Idaho, right?
