The President is damned if he do and damned if he don't. As for me, I am banking on his ability to demonstrate to the American people what he has accomplished, and how those accomplishments affect the country as a whole, and not just a certain segment of the populace. The fact that there is a segment of people who do not like the President nor never will; they will not prevail, and they will just have to dislike him for another four years.

A few observations...

I remember a couple of years ago some commenters here being told it was racist to refer to Obama as Barry. Either something has changed or the PC police were all wet that day.

Dionne is playing the endless "you're a hypocrite" game, accusing the GOP of hypocrisy for criticizing Obama for acting the same way Bush did. I don't remember the GOP criticizing Obama for that reason, but I could have missed it. In any case it's just more of the usual partisan blather common on both sides.

Finally Dionne misses the key question which is how will Obama's approach play to the undecided? The Democratic base likes it when Obama comes out fighting and the GOP base is not going to vote for Obama in any event. I think the approach can work for Obama but he has to be a little careful. One of his biggest assets is looking presidential and above the fray. When he directly engages in negative campaigning he doesn't necessarily look stronger, and may be perceived in a way quite different than the Democratic base sees him.

It's good that you compared Truman and Obama in only the terms of running against congress. There is nothing else that Obama can measure up to compared to Truman. Truman was a leader, something Obama only dreams of being.
'
As for the do nothing congress, it will be hard to duplicate Trumans efforts as there are too many bills the House sends to the Senate that Harry Reid will not even allow to come to a vote. Reid is being the obstructionist. And then when they do vote on something, it is 99-0. Obama's budget, so how out of touch is he to his own party?

Lets compare Carter and Obama, it's much easier to compare those two than Truman and Obama.
