Alan, it doesn't really seem that way to me. The net is an incredibly powerful communications tool, and will be used for good or ill by everyone. Yes, now pedophiles can get in contact with one another and give pointers and advice, and this is bad. On the other hand it allows them to be watched by law-enforcement (no one is telling me that pedophile forums, even if legal, aren't infiltrated up the wazoo) and it also gives tools to their enemies (in this case, the rest of the world). Parents can connect and network to support each other. I saw one site that had amassed publicly available information on sex-offender addresses with google maps, so you could type your address and see who lived in your area..

Terrorists use it, and their hunters use it to find them. Think of how crippled law-enforcement, especially the sort that goes after terrorists, would be without the ability to quickly share information. I still think that, in the end, the outcome is positive for the good guys.

As for this particular sicko, I don't know what to think. I don't feel any sympathy for him, he seems to be a ticking time bomb, but I wonder about the legality of effectively punishing someone for something you basically only THINK he's going to do. He's been forbidden from getting within 10 yards of any minor, which basically means he can't leave the house, ever.

I normally hate to be negative, but doesn't it sometimes seem that the Internet seems primarily to be serving pedophiles, con artists, terrorist groups, and others engaged in national and trans-national illegal activities?
