Not to mention as a member of the infamous White House Iraq Group that had fellow members of: Karen Hughes, Scooter Libby, Mary Matalin, Stephen Handley, and others. What an illustrious group of intellectual political minds to plan for a war in Iraq. He's not at the center of any big scandal at the moment. The usual shrill cries that he be "frog-marched" out of his office have been fairly quite of late. Leaving earlier, it would have appeared that the president capitulated to his political enemies who insisted on Rove's departure (mostly because they feared his political astuteness). A quiet time is the best time for a controversial figure to leave, for that reason. Plus, as the White House statement noted, we are reaching the time where if you're going, you need to go.
