The resignation of any major administration official is going to be news. The fact that its Karl Rove makes it really big news. Karl Rove grew up in Salt Lake City, but the public man was created by the media……

The Democrats might – therefore – celebrate Rove’s resignation, but having a weak president is not good for anyone.

I beg to differ. A weak President (especially a weak President Bush) is exactly what this country needs to return to its constitutional roots. After half a decade of near King-like rule over the United States, how could anyone think otherwise?

Why is the president allowed to torture and detain people indefinitely in violation of the Constitution? Why is he allowed to wiretap his own citizens without a warrant in violation of the Bill of Rights? Why are his underlings allowed to lie to Congress without penalty? Why is he allowed to ignore laws passed by Congress through signing statements?

Those are not the powers of the leader of a democracy but the leader of an autocracy.

Interestingly with Rove, at or near the core or top of the Bush inner group, we weren’t entreated prior to now with expressions by Dubya and others in strong support of “Karl.” (Whereas, they have done so with Gonzales yet Gonzales has yet to be sacrificed.)

The Presiden’t chief political adviser is resigning. Will AP now give us an update on the contents of Rove’s garage? Inquiring minds want to know. Jason Leopold will now have to find honest work, that’s for sure….
