"Hypothetical reconstruction of Johann Gutenberg’s Printing Press."

Thx for this info! At first glance, I recognized the apparatus as a french guillotine, and was more than a bit surprised how far the rage against Beauchamp has already gone...

“If they want to be serious about the new media businesses, the Large Ones are going to have to establish skunkworks where people who really get the new media are given the resources and support necessary to develop original, independently branded fare. And the Large Ones will have to restrain themselves from over-managing these necessarily alien efforts."

Very good point! Some of the most successful products of modern time have been developed by skunk works. IBM 360 mainframe, the IBM PC, Apple Macintosh and the Sony Walkman come instantly to mind. I seem to remember the Ford Mustang was the child of such a rebel unit, too. Very often, these belittled and ridiculed subdivisions of talented, focussed and enthusiastic developers even managed to save their mother companies, that had become too complex and bureaucratic to get anything done. Quality over quantity, indeed.

This is not a comment about Scott Beauchamp, either.

I found the same thing when two local papers (at different times) mentioned my personal blog in the obligatory "local blogs" articles that bored feature writers come up with when they're bored. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nothing.

The local progressive radio station host was a fan, and plugged my blog shamelessly on a couple of occasions. Again, zip.

But an upstate blogger mentioned my blog in reference to a burning issue of the day (he doesn't have a 'big blog' by any means) but generated more hits than all of the above PUT TOGETHER.

I am beginning to think that mention in another medium is fundamentally worthless in terms of traffic.

Of course, if you manage to outrage WorldNetDaily, your hits will go off the charts. But the comments won't be very nice. ;-)
