Ron Paul doesn’t generally come across very strongly at the GOP debates with his soft spoken voice and almost grandfatherly demeanor. But during last night’s debate, he seemed pretty animated in his harsh criticism—not only of the war—but of those in favor of perpetuating it.
Mitt Romney’s response: Has he forgotten about 9/11?
Paul is right. We did not invade Iraq because of 9/11. 9/11 was used to sell the invasion to the public, by conflating Saddam and the terrorists’ attack on the WTC.
Most of the signatories of the 1998 letter from the PNAC to Bill Clinton urging him to remove Saddam, by force if necessary, ended up in the Bush administration. The premeditation of the invasion has been confirmed by at least three ex-administration insiders- George Tenet, Richard Clarke and Paul O’ Neill.

If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. The bamboozle has captured us. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.
The look on Mitt Romney’s face as Ron Paul dismantles his own party’s talking points is priceless.
But…but…nine eleven! NINE ELEVEN!
NR – I hope the Mitter didn’t mess up his hair. He might have to ask Edwards about a good stylist.
Mitt Romney is an utter joke. That he is even in contention just shows how terribly bankrupt our political process happens to be.
The republic is dead, long live the republic.
