Prosecutorial Misconduct

A great injustice was perpetuated on the Duke lacrosse players due to unethical and illegal actions by prosecutor Mike Nifong. They had resources and they had means, so they were able to receive justice anyway, and ensure that the Nifong was punished. Unfortunately, Nifong’s actions were not isolated. An intolerably high number of people are prosecuted and convicted by prosecutors utilizing similarly illegal and unethical tactics, and don’t have the resources to do anything about it. If we are serious that what happened to the Duke players was a terrible legal travesty, then we must act to ensure it never happens to any defendant, regardless of their material or social status. It’s politically difficult, but cracking down on unethical prosecutors is crucial towards restoring the integrity of our judicial system.
