I by and large agree with your post. The primary caveat I would add is that people will have multiple moral and policy positions which will virtually never be free of conflict. There are a large number of people for whom abortion is such a primary moral issue that all other thoughts about freedom from government, personal responsibility, religious beliefs, etc., will all be relegated to the background to get the right result on abortion. This does not mean, however, that they do not have such other moral beliefs and that they may not take precedence at some other time. There may come a time for more citizens in which the results of the power of government are more important than the results of abortion policy. I guess I will copy this over on your blog, since this entry has gotten so old here on TMV.
