What’s sad and scary at the same time is that so many Americans will look at this and laugh. Yes, it’s funny and on target at the same time.
The problem is, I think most people don’t realize how powerful and potentially dangerous a lying, corrupt attorney general can be. Such a person can do, or facilitate others doing, extreme and permanent damage to our legal system and democracy. He can also permit really bad things to be done to individuals and groups the administration deems troublemakers.
Bush and Gonzales at times seem like brain-damaged buffoons. Especially with people like Dick Cheney and Karl Rove operating with maximum secrecy in the background, Bush and Gonzales represent a clear and present danger.
Laugh at the cartoon, folks. Just watch your back.
We seem to live in an age where accountability is considered dispensible. Ah well, the buck must stop somewhere. . . somewhere far far away apparently.
Gonzales is there to provide cover for Bush, Rove and Cheney. I think they learned their lesson with the CIA Leak case, so I wouldn’t expect Bush to appoint another special prosecutor to investigate Gonzales. But Bush knew he could count on Gonzo to skirt the rules and put loyalty first, so that Congress would never get any evidence of illegal activity.
A better comment wd have had Gonzo somehow denying W even cut down the bigger tree.
Since Gonzales’ problem is medical, Pinocchio Syndrome, jokes at his expense are in poor taste, like making fun of the disabled:
