Not so much that they don’t have the power. Morelikely the issue is that the President hides behind “Executive Privilege” and Veto’s anything remotely anti-Iraq War.
They need longer ropes or dynamite to get through George “Stonewallin’” Bush.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the House has passed several measures that ended up DOA in the Senate or rejected by the President. One cannot exclusively blame Democrats for the lack of accomplishments when Republicans continue to block every initiative. Frankly, I think both parties could use a nap and a time-out since they continue to childishly bicker and waste time.
