    SPOILERS here as well!!

By far the best and most moving part of the book was the explanation of Severus’ motives, my heart really clenched when he brought out his Spectro Patronum, the same as Lily’s. I didn’t predict that twist, though I always did suspect that Dumbledore and Severus had an agreement about his death and also that the last bit of Voldermort was inside Harry (of course half the world thought that). I was VERY worried about Hermione, I could see her being killed for the benefit of infuriating Ron. Looking back, I realized that Ron and Hermione never really were in danger, it wouldn’t have been a triumphant end if they were missing from it. The only one in real danger was Harry. I must admit I thought Neville would get it too, doing something very noble and brave. Narcissa choosing to spare Harry after being told her son is alive is a good touch, lends her humanity. I, as you, itched for Umbridge to pay dearly for her ways, not in Azkaban, I would have rather seen her trampled by Centaurs, or eaten by house-elves, or something like that.

I too found the epilogue too rushed. Neville is the herbology teacher, which I could see coming, but what about the rest of them? McGonagall must be headmaster, but Harry, Ron and Hermione? Ginny was always too much a two dimentional character, someone for Harry since Hermione was for Ron.

The sheer thickness of the books when Harry realizes he has to die is a giveaway that he won’t, not with that many pages left. Harry NEVER chooses to kill someone, which is completely unrealistic. Expelliarmus for VOLDERMORT? What does a guy have to DO for Harry to want to kill him? Still, the plot gets tied up very neatly, especially everything that happened before Harry’s birth, and the pace at which the puzzle comes together keeps you interested and guessing the whole time.
