Opening up the investigation will at least allow the family some resolution and the rest of us an opportunity to learn from what went wrong.

Ironic, because for once they might do some good and can’t be used because they “don’t exist”.

I am not suggesting that the legal system be circumvented; I am suggesting that it already HAS been circumvented. How is any jury supposed to determine that Zimmerman is guilty “beyond reasonable doubt” when the police already exonerated him at the outset? That is the injustice and the tragedy.

Zimmerman is likely to be untouchable by the law (meaning the courts and such). It is the people whose action made him untouchable who must face justice. The police who failed to investigate numerous pieces of the puzzle, the local DA who did virtually nothing, the city councilors who backed up the chief and how the investigation was done; these are the targets that need to be investigated. They are the enablers.

However I’m concerned that the pressure from the protests will circumvent the legal system. I understand everything we are being fed has this guy as guilty but facts are thin and we can only get one side of the incident. Putting aside the case for a min. just think about it with yourself being in this situation. You had a confrontation and gave a statement to the police, they referred it to the DA and your case was going to be referred to a grand jury. This is a normal and regular part of the system and often the way it plays out. All the sudden the public get wind of the case and public outcry demands that you be in jail. Forget the legal system, never mind about procedure, if enough people complain we can just skip ahead and throw you in jail. Now please I know it’s far from a good analogy but hopefully you get where I’m going with this. While I think the guy is most likely guilty, tho I’m not sure of what, I’m concerned when we allow mob rule to drive the legal system.

Keep up the pressure until all the facts come out. It may not be possible to prosecute Zimmerman at this point due to the botched police investigation, but at least the family deserves to know the truth about their son. The days when a black kid can be gunned down for no reason and there are no repercussions are over with.
Also, this SYG law must be examined to see if it is inadvertently leading to these kinds of situations and giving cover for stalkers. IMO, the law is too broad in scope about where and why an armed person can defend themselves with deadly force. It invites a Wild West mentality. This is not just Florida’s problem as many states already have or are passing similar laws

Umm…isn’t that what caused the failure of the investigation in the first place? I think that those who desire to do so, should, in fact, keep up the protests. It was because a responsible agency (the Sanford PD) did NOT do its job that Trayvor has not seen any justice done.
