Joe - Look at the situation accross the globe and how things have deteriorated since 2001. Pakistan is in far worse shape. The Israeli/Palestinian conflict is farther from being resolved. Lebanon is now a basket case and Israel and Syria are growling at each other amid rumors of a summer war. Iran is flexing it's muscles, Egypt will probably errupt the moment Mubarak dies. Afganistan and Iraq are in worse shape than immediately after each government was overthrown. The Turkey/Kurd dispute is hotter now than ever. Shite unrest in Bahrain and Saudia Arabia is bubbling close to the surface.

Somalia is in anarchy and the ethnic/religious conflict in Nigeria is worse than ever. Genocide in Darfur continues and terrorist attacks continue accross the globe. South America drifts out of our orbit while Chinese make economic and diplomatic strides in Africa and central asia. Russia continues its move toward old style Soviet autocracy.

In short, most everything in world affairs have deteroirated, especially from America's viewpoint. While much of this deterioration may not have been preventable, a lot can be laid at the feet of our Iraq fiasco which has used up most of our military, economic and diplomatic resources.

They've been able to regroup while our military was distracted in Iraq. The US is helpless to do much, despite the very real threat, because Pakistan is a sovereign nation, and Musharaff is holding on by a thread. Yet, we went into Iraq on an even shakier basis, when there were no al queda bases there???? Is that Bush's biggest foreign policy error?
