Sorry, Joe, I couldn’t read it all. As the bold type of the questions began to seriously dominate the plain type of the answers, my mind began to wander. This is not an interview, in my opinion, but a forum for the interviewer to let us know about himself. The interviewer seems only tangentially interested in Dennett’s views. I was interested in Dennett, so I went on to read this informative interview with him in Reason.
The M & C interviewer might want to occasionally ask the subject “Why?” and “Would you unpack that a little bit?”. Then perhaps he would elicit fewer answers like “I have no idea’” and “I haven’t a clue”.

Actually, the Reason interview is the cookie cutter sort of interview where the answers are prefab.

It’s the kind of interview Dennett and many others are comfortable with, and the questions that they have answered dozens of times before.

The best interviews- think Charlie Rose or Playboy, are always conversational, and equal exchanges.

Then again, one needs to think, both interviewed and reader, and that’s verboten in this day and age.

I’m with outofcontext on this one. Dennett seemed very interesting but his interviewer seems intent on impressing with his own words instead of getting to his interview.

Thanks for the non-political post btw. I’m looking forward to checking out some of Dennett’s work.

The link Outofcontext provided leads to a very interesting interview.
    I recommend it.
