Gravel and Kucinich can afford to be plainspoken, becasue they're marginalized. I like Gravel, but he reminded me a bit of Perot's running mate in '92.

Edwards won this debate rather easily. He has the most command of the facts and the most deeply thought out ideas. Obama was a distant second. Hillary, Biden, and Dodd showed they're hacks, and poor Richardson- how the hell did he ever get elected- he cannot tailor a message well.

Yes Nick, I noticed that. Several candidates mentioned drug courts, rehabilitation and doing away with mandatory minimum sentencing.

I find it odd that on the day that the current immigration reform bill died in the Senate, no question was asked about immigraion. Was it because a Howard University audience would not be excited about the idea of open borders and huge increase in Hispanic immigration?

Did anyone else catch Mike Gravel's comments with regards to the War on Drugs? He dedicated 90 seconds solely to this topic alone--which is probably the most time a candidate from either major party has dedicated to speaking out against the War on Drugs. Gravel's comments couldn't have been very comforting to Senator Joe Biden, who has been one of the biggest apologists on the Democratic side for this failed government program.

To date, two of the eight Democratic candidates (Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich) running for president have come out unambiguously against the War on Drugs as has one of the ten Republican candidates (Ron Paul).

Could this signal that the tide is turning on support for the War on Drugs? I can only hope!
