It's hard to say that anyone speaks for the Jews. There is a certain genetic or hereditary component to being a Jew, but not an absolute one, and to some this overrides any test of belief or measure of ritual and as a Jew, I don't have any particular problem accepting all sorts of prodigal cousins, nephews and more distant relatives into the family - as long as they behave.
