Fun With Online Translation

Here is a fun diversion (hat tip to Jimmy Kimmel show who did it with a scene from Jersey Shore)

Take a sentence and translate it into a foreign language on Babelfish or Bing Translator

Then translate that sentence into a 2nd language

Then back into English

I tried “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal” and took it from English to Japanese to French to English

I ended up with

“All created all men, holds the truth of these trivial.”

Try it out and let us know what you get…..

    That’s interesting, Patrick.

The following (a little bit related) is something I came across a few weeks ago — and is still continuing.

There is site called “My Blog” that takes pieces posted on the web (including from here at TMV) and posts them on the site — a very professional looking site with beautiful artwork

However, the text appears to have been processed through some kind of word replacement routine, completely messing up one’s post.

    Here’s an example:

My original post about Spain’s prosecutor Baltasar Garzon is here at TMV:

Now, look at the “translated” piece at the “My Blog” site:

Can someone explain what this is all about?

I tried the trick. Went from English to Korean to Tamil to Afrikaans to English. The first sentence ended up as: The fact that all the people he will be born is also clear.

I use a translator a lot, the trick is to write as close to the other langage sentence structure as you can. Example: In english we would write, How do you feel today, if translating to a latin derived language you would write, today you feel well? There are other ways to structure this sentence, but I hope you get what I mean. Or, my meaning you understand?

    talk like Yoda we should
