Amid people who are counting finding out that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich drops Ronald Reagan’s name constantly, a Romney PAC has taken this factoid and run with it in this new ad:

  1. The New York Times said 55 times in all the debates.

Gingrich is the Republican party’s Alan Grayson (D) Fla. Both are McCarthy-like in their willingness to say ANYTHING to get elected, and stay elected – well above the norm of most politicians.

    From Eliot Abrams:

[Gingrich scorned Reagan’s speeches, which moved a party and then a nation, because “the president of the United States cannot discipline himself to use the correct language.” In Afghanistan, Reagan’s policy was marked by “impotence [and] incompetence.” Thus Gingrich concluded as he surveyed five years of Reagan in power that “we have been losing the struggle with the Soviet empire.” Reagan did not know what he was doing, and “it is precisely at the vision and strategy levels that the Soviet empire today is superior to the free world.”]

  2. Gingrich also opposed RR’s meetings with Mikael Gorbachev, comparing them to appeasement of Hitler’s regime. As we all know now, those negotiations were key to ending the Cold War- which is probably Reagan’s biggest achievements.

There’s more than enough rope to hang Gingrich if he becomest the nominee.
