The Best Moment Of SOTU

Easily the best moment of the night as the chamber gives Congresswoman Giffords a well deserved standing ovation.

Fellow Arizona Congressmen Grijavala (a liberal Democrat) and Flake (a conservative Republican) led her into the chamber and helped her stand when she wanted to applaud the President.

Perhaps the most touching story though was of Congressman Louie Gohmert, a conservative Republican from Texas. Although they were not always together on the issues, they are friends. In fact they would share a flight from DC to Dallas, where Giffords would transfer for the flight to Arizona.

On the flights Gohmert would often bring candy for them to nibble on.

If you noticed when Giffords was approached by a member who whispered to her, that was Gohmert, who told her he’d brought a bag for her tonight.

A wonderful example of humanity above politics.

Perhaps therein the politico skin there beats the human heart. But why so often and so far do such rhythms stray apart? When all are one, and one serves all why can’t they seem to chart, a course on which so many here can make a fresh new start?

It is hard to imagine that some of these people are actually human beings… maybe because they act like animals in front of the camera.

Definitely a best moment for sure. It is great to see compassion and friendship rise above politics.
