  1. Making A Campaign Song Stick

The Clinton campaign announced their choice for a campaign song today in a very unique and hip fashion taking a page… or a scene from the finale of Sopranos. Check it out:

If I were in the Clinton campaign, I’d be dissapointed with this video for a few reasons:

    1. About twice as many people voted for Ross Perot in ’96 as watched the Sopranos season finale. Way to go after the majority, Hilary.

    2. Her forcing healthy food on Bill is cute but reminds voters of what they’re afraid of — that she’s a stick-up-the-ass would-be-do-gooder who wants to force her views on everyone else.

    3. This video made me want to vote for Bill all over again. Get that guy some onion rings!

    4. Hilary needs to do a movie with Larry The Cable Guy — now THAT’S how you Git-R-Done, by which I mean winning the popular vote. (Bill never had this problem because he IS Larry The Cable Guy.)

Cute video. I like anything that makes YouTube a viable force in political advertising. The 30 second televised spot has reduced or political campaigns to a Coke versus Pepsi irrelevancy, alternating with vicious attack ads. With the cost of such advertising, issues are never discussed and the campaign becomes a popularity contest. Of course, Hillary’s ad isn’t about issues either, but just an attempt to humanize the candidate.

It really doesn’t matter that this ad targets people who did watch the Sopranos finale (I didn’t). What matters to me is that low-cost political advertising can catch the viral marketing wave and well done low-cost ads can be linked to and the links sent to all our friends or made available, as here, to millions.
