This reminds me of one those poltical speeches making the most preposterous claims and ending with 'it's what the American people want'.
No matter how much they claim to care aboutr jobs and reducing global warming, this proposal is still designed to hamper efforts at increased fuel economy. If they can't compete with foreign companies who have the forsight to invest in new technologies, Congress has no business helping them remain uncompetitive.

CEOs, investors and consumers alike at some point have to decide whether or not they want to stay with heads buried firmly in the sand. Setting high standards risks not being able to completely meet them. Not setting high standars guarantees that you won't

By 2015, the amendment requires each manufacturer to produce and sell 50 percent advanced technology vehicles, such as hybrids or clean diesel, or flex fuel autos.

Are you saying that someone actually believes it's possible to legislate that 50 per cent of production of sales of vehicles will be new, alternative types?

Have you sought legislation as well that reduces the number of annual cloudy days by fifty per cent in Seattle?
