Righting the Ship

What can The New Republic–a venerable political institution, struggling to right itself after its colossal misjudgment on Iraq–do to re-establish itself in the emerging progressive discursive sphere?

There is no righting the ship. The TitanicTNR struck an iceberg Iraqis war and is taking on lots of water.

The first thing must be to get rid of Marty Peretz. Not because contrary voices, or agendas (whatever they may be) aren’t welcome, but because some competency and connection with reality is.

Funny – I typed the above response solely in answer to the question, without reading the link.

I guess it is all about Marty.

Well I dopped my 22 year subscription in early 2003. I could not longer stand to read Marty’s rantings. Not to pick on TNR, I dopped my 38 year subscription to the Wall Street Journal at the same time because I could not longer tolerate their bile.

Both publications had a lot of positives and were decent reading but their editorial stances were so contrary to my values that I felt dirty supporting them financially.
