Bain Gives More To Democrats Than GOP

Given the attacks from the left on Bain Capital you’d assume they gave tons of money to the GOP.

As it turns out, about 70% of their donations went to the Democrats over the last 3 cycles.

I’m not sure it’s that big of a deal, businesses always give to both sides and in 2006 and 2008 the trend was to the Democrats.

But it does make it harder to paint Bain as a GOP issue.

yep — I noted this a day or more ago

So much for Gucci liberal Bain bashing

This really is pretty hilarious, and a well-deserved criticism.

It costs more to “influence” a Dem than a Rep, and Dems are notorious for not staying bought.
And, as they say, a penny spent on lobbying is a dollar saved in taxes. Don’t step on my Guccis, please.

Well, Bain has seen the light. No more Mr. Nice Guy to the Dems.

    From Mother Jones:

[Now that Bain executives have one of their own as the clear front-runner for a major party nomination, their political giving reflects that:

As of Dec. 21, fundraising reports show Bain employees gave $123,000 to the Democratic National Committee in 2011...The Democratic fundraising advantage, however, was offset by at least $750,000 that Bain Capital employees gave to Restore Our Future, a pro-Romney super-PAC, in 2011.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Romney has bagged more campaign contributions from Bain Capital employees than any other federal candidate over the last five years. In the first three quarters of 2011 alone Romney hauled in nearly $85,000 from Bain executives and employees.]

Meantime, the Obama administration has just appointed a previous Bain employee (for 18 months) Jeffrey Zeints as head of OMB. Whether that will garner any donations from Bain Capital remains to be seen.

As far as Super Pacs (a new election phenomenon – courtesy of Citizens United) look who’s leading:

This information must be sent to the Santorum campaign immediately! So I sent it.

    Duck-

    Keep you friends CLOSE!

Keep your enemies closer. It’s a tactic Republicans are far to dense to understand.

  8. bluebelle says:

Many companies hedge their bets and give to both. It could also be that they know that the Dems are actively interested in job creation and getting the business community to recover. The Pubs are staking their future for ’12 on failure, because it is so much easier to run against.

Plus, why give to a Republican– they haven’t achieved anything positive in recent memory. The entire 8 years of Bush/Cheney was a nightmare that resulted in two expensive wars and economic collapse.

  9. slamfu says:

Politicians are cheap, why wouldn’t you play both sides of the aisle? Bribery has been legal for some time now.

  10. Allen says:

The Democrats are going to win and Bain knows it. It’s a hedge bet.

Exactly. There is nothing there to vindicate Bain apologists. That isn’t where the point is. Wake up.

I didn’t think Bain was ever an issue…. I thought what Romney did while at Bain was the issue. There are all sorts of despicable companies out there, run by despicable people. I’m not going to pretend that they don’t exist, but I do not think it is healthy for any government of any country to be run by people with those values. If Romney can be a private citizen and run a company without breaking laws, fine. Just stay away from me. But it’s a different matter when he starts imposing his despicable business actions on the whole country.

Correct StockBoyLA. They never will get it.

Stock, said: “But it’s a different matter when he starts imposing his despicable business actions on the whole country.”

    Please enumerate what “despicable” actions.

  15. StockBoyLA says:

dduck, the companies Bain bought, leeched money out of and then filed bankruptcy. causing thousands of job losses.

    Here’s one example:

    http://www.kansascity.com/2012/01/14/3370204/romneys-bain-made-millions-as.html

Romney doesn’t care about Americans’ best interests. He cares about making money.

  16. dduck says:

Stock, here’s an article from the same paper that paints Bain in a more favorable light and offers NO despicable actions:
“Therein rests Romney’s political problem with his private-equity deals. Like President Barack Obama with stimulus spending, Romney must argue the counterfactual: that things could have been even worse. That is, even more jobs would have been lost had there not been a private equity-led restructuring and the company instead had gone belly up. The companies that were restructured also created demand in the economy for services, supplies, equipment, office space and the like. This doesn’t show up in the numbers of hires or fires.”

BTW: both are good articles, thanks
