Any place that puts Strom Thurmond and Ludacris right next to each other on their “celebrity wall” deserves my patronage. But I’m looking for some good places to take some of my Carleton friends who are visiting in DC, and suggestions (vegetarian-friendly is preferred, metro accessible is a must) are most welcome in the comments.
You can’t go wrong with these:
My radical friend in DC is vegeterian and usually 100% vegan … a first suggestion is our favorite restaurant, Bua Thai (we just call it “Bua“), a Thai restaurant that has at least one or two vegetarian dishes. 1635 P St. NW.
There is a deck on the second floor at Bua overlooking P Street that is a favorite place to sit and relax, listen and watch the goings-on below, etc. The last time we were there, the “Cheneymobile” (Marine Two) flew twice overhead (arrival at the Vice Presidential mansion and then departure after dropoff or pickup).
This is in the 17th Street restaurant zone, in a GBLT neighborhood in DC. (Don’t be surprised to see hand-holding and smooching by same-sex couples openly on the street, and same-sex couples and groups at the tables.) This area features numerous restaurants (and more can be found nearby at Dupont Circle) and is lively 24-7 like much of DC.
I also suggest other Thai restaurants: Haad Thai next to Capitol Brewing in the tourist area (not the Union Station location) and Thai Tanic (14th Street). There is also at least one more place we have visited more than once, nearer the Capitol, but I forget the name.
There’s a Burmese restaurant in Silver Spring we often have enjoyed as well, since it was located earlier in College Park: Mandalay.
