Times, They Are a’Changing

Al Gore supported the first Gulf War. He opposed the second Gulf War. He was right both times. Why is this considered a negative in some circles?

  1. Because in some circles Al Gore must be criticized no matter what he says or does since he is not a Republican. And worse yet, he thinks about the issues instead of being a blind ideologue.

The right is getting a head start attacking his record in case he makes a run for president. An Oscar-winning, Nobel peace prize nominee who has been right more times than not is too big a threat. Threat=target for right wing websites.

BTW, I happen to agree with them that a Gore/Obama ticket might be unbeatable.

    Tell me about it.

This is the kind of nothinking process that passes for conservative rhetoric. They bring up point after point that is just plain wrong and/or completely misrepresented and use that as justification for everything. And its not just the way out there folks, its the really mainstream see em on FOX News once a week republicans. The face of that party is a bunch of ignorant fools that don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground but swear its the educated “Libruls” who don’t know what they are talking about.

Looking at Gore’s comments over the years he definitely supported regime change in Iraq. His criticism of GHWB after the 1991 was that he “felt betrayed by the first Bush administration’s hasty departure from the battlefield” (Gore’s own words there). It’s not clear if Gore wanted GHWB to drive to Baghdad in 1991 – probably not. Gore’s principle complaint against the 2003 war was that it was unilateral (at least that was his complaint before the war) and by unilaterally attacking Iraq we would hurt the “War on Terror” by isolating our allies. So, had the UN explicitly supported the Iraq war with a specific resolution, Gore probably would have been on board.

Anyway, here’s a pretty good speech he gave on the subject in the fall of 2002.
