Fred refuses to officially announce so he doesnt have to debate his opponents or particpate in the process he is quick to criticise.

Fred refuses to field questions from reporters or even his own supporters.

Karl Rove, who is the mastermind behind the amnesty bill is the one pulling strings and stiff arming people into showing support for Fred.

Matlin/Carville is sending Thompson the Israel and London later this month to make it appear Fred has foreign affaris experience, when in reality, he doesn’t.

Fred was for abortion before he was against it.

Fred was for Mcain/Feingold before he was against it.

Fred is a globalist.

Fred is a lobbyist.

Fred is a dirty ol man with a fetish for young girls.

This is just begining and this is all really know about the guy. I predect that more we know about Fred, the less people will support him. It is however, interesting to see SoCon twist themselves into a pretzel trying to sell this guy as the SoCon candidate when he is anything but that.

You're right. Up to now, Thompson as actor and politician has only had to play himself. But to get through the primaries and have a chance of winning the White House Oscar, he's going to have to do a reverse Jekyll and Hyde:

Joe, with all due respect, a good portion of this article defies common political calculation sense.

1. So Politico thinks Rudy, McCain and Romney are going to make hay attacking Thompson's conservative credentials????

2. Many of their other points were asked and answered months ago. (Of course that was done on the conservative blogs, not Politico.) And if he has not already obtained the backing of conservatives, just who is it that has put him right up with Rudy this week.....the RINO's???

3. Independents and centrist Democrats are logically not the focus of primary-season-speak. I think it will be quite logical waiting until there are only two POTUS candidates out there before you go for the potential swing voters. After all, what is Clinton, Obama and Edwards doing to swing me over right now?

4. Democrats taking notes??? Geez, a couple of paragraphs above, Politico is suggesting he is too centrist.

Tell Politico they would be better served focusing on penning a cohesively logical piece and staying out of the prognostication business. They're looking as inept at it as Dick Morris and George Will.

"Baker goes back to the days when Republicans would talk to Democrats and have differences with them — but not hate them or insist they all had horns, pitchforks, were dishonest of hypocrites."

I'm sure you understand this, but this problem goes both ways. The Dems have used the demonization ploy just as much.

"Thompson is not going to get softball interviews from the mainstream media."

You have more faith than I do. I mean, c'mon, the guy was on teevee! The media will love him.
