Seriously, the drone capture could have been prevented. We knew about the weakness of unencrypted signals almost exactly two years ago (note the date of the article: Dec 17th, 2009.

I’m in awe that the military would have used unencrypted signals to start with, much less ignored the publicized problem for two years.
ProfElwood…I would think that there are many other military and government computer software and hardware applications that are very vulnerable to hacking other than this software.
Some watch programs on TV that show individuals hacking into government applications and say, “who came up with that idea that you could take control of that system. That is pure fiction.” I believe if one can think about accessing a government program,like a writer for a TV show, then many young computer hackers would be able to easily enter the any governemnt system. The drone is just one example of many problems that exist due to lax oversight by those in charge.

There’s a lot of lax security that you can get away with behind a good firewall. Operating a super-secret, expensive piece of equipment over an exposed channel lends itself to all sorts of security risks. Is there a network security guy out there who wouldn’t see the problem?
