"They did not seem to be operating in the real world, where very little gets done that isn’t watered down and made almost meaningless by the legislative process."
So True. You just wonder if it's the aim or a side effect of something else in the process that's gotten out of hand and is not being addressed

I also thought Richardson improved over his last performances (1st debate and Meet the Press interview), but agree with you on the other two. I guess the rhetoric gets stronger and stranger the longer the long-shot! They did not seem to be operating in the real world, where very little gets done that isn't watered down and made almost meaningless by the legislative process.

Dodd seemed well-meaning but mired in Washington-speak, so I doubt he made much of an impression on the heartland. I thought Biden, Obama, Edwards and Clinton made the most impact, and seemed the clearest on their points.

pacatrue; from your lips to God's ears. I hope whoever is elected will appoint B. Richardson for that set of tasks. You're right. I too think he sticks his neck out plenty. Is well liked by many out here in SW. He is over-run pretty hard, however, by some of the other cands. We'll see. (I think they have reruns of debate online if you care to watch it... it was long, but interesting.

I did not watch the debate, which I know is what you are basing your analysis on, but I find it interesting that you immediately threw out Richardson when he in fact already has negotiated a temporary ceasefire in Darfur, has negotiated with North Korea about their nuclear program (part of the administration's team a month or two ago), and has been Ambassador to the U.N. where he dealt with Cuba and other such regimes. If his performance was that bad, it is indeed unfortunate. The ironic thing is that if Obama, Edwards, or Clinton were to win, they will immediately send Richardson, should he accept, to do the negotations that the American people wouldn't elect him for.
