Lebanese troops have intensified their assault on the perimeter of a Palestinian refugee camp, demanding the surrender of Islamist militants inside.
A helicopter fired two missiles into Nahr al-Bared camp, backing up machine gun and cannon fire that had reportedly destroyed the militants’ sniper posts.
Five soldiers have died since the latest assault began on Friday.
The 13-day confrontation between troops and militants has killed more than 100 people, many of them civilians.
The UN says about 25,000 of the camp’s 31,000 original residents have fled. Aid agencies have called for a ceasefire to allow more civilians to leave.
The violence, which is taking place in the north of the country, near the city of Tripoli, is the worst internal fighting Lebanon has seen since the end of its civil war 17 years ago.
The media ignored the Israeli incursions into Gaza and Lebanon that precipitated the invasion last summer. In an extreme case of revisionism, the Israeli troops that were captured inside Lebanese territory were just minding their own business and viciously attacked without provocation.
The media had no problem ignoring the IDF then.
Mr “anti-Semite” Chris: …
Holly: well said.
Michael,
Didn’t you read about the timeline before last summers invasion?
There is also the fact that this is happening inside Lebanon and does not involve any borders.
For a more proper context, take note that the whole Lebanese crises of government has been largely ignored by news outlets.
Overstating a case does more harm than good.
,
Obviously, Chris needs to go educate himself.
Michael isn’t that an ad hominem attack? I thought that was verbotten.
Holly,
Do you ever have any facts to back up your attacks?
I suggest you read this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/25/AR2006062500051.html
and this:

Maybe you should educate yourself, instead of blindly soaking in government propaganda.
Michael,
I thought the accusations of ‘anti-Semite’ you smeared many of the TMV regulars with on Friday was inexcusable… Unless you’d been out drinking and were PWD (Posting While Drunk).
Since you seem to be starting up again where you left off I’m left to think that drink isn’t the reason for this change in your ‘style’.
Until this brouhaha I’d always read and appreciated your opinions / positions even when I don’t agree with them. But that was then and this is now. Now I have to reevaluate just how serious to take you, and how much of a prime-contributor you really are. Don’t you know that mean-spiritedness and hatefulness never wins and that never get anyone anywhere.
* * *
Holly,
We all need to educate ourselves!
I like a lot of your opinions and ideas but as soon as the subject turns to anything ‘Jewish’ I have to switch you off.
It’s ‘human’ to be able to easily see closed-mindedness in others and miss it in ourselves but can’t you see that closed-minded, in-your-face positions ON ANY TOPIC are are not the way to get others open up and try to see things from your point of view? Just askin’.
Kim: one t too many…
Steve, I think you missed the friendly accusations Chris and I exchange with one another. He calls me “anti-Arab” I call him anti-Semite. Much like Rudi and Marlowe refer to each other as “comrade.”
And, seriously – I am of course not pissed at all. I am making a bit fun of the entire situation. My reaction was, I must say, honest – I was angry in that thread. I would like to say this – if you have a problem with my attitude, e-mail me and I will explain it more at length. For now, I would like to say that, on second thought, I should have worded it different.
hehe…. I’m waiting for my chance to use “anti-Muslim”
It’s good fun arguing with you guys, even if we go overboard now and then. I’m grateful we have lives that are comfortable enough that we can spend our time discussing issues like this.
Chris: I second that sentiment.
Anti-Muslim: that truly wouldn’t work with me. I’d say take a guess why not
Darn, I broke my own just instated rule AGAIN!
btw, i don’t understand something: I tried to reach your blog on several occasions by now, but the link in your name doesn’t work. What’s up with that?
Michael,
Domain name troubles. The short version of the story is that the auto-renew at my registration company wasn’t as automatic as I would have liked.
Hopefully, it will be back up sometime this week. Right now you can get at the site through http://whyweworry.nfshost.com/ but I haven’t updated it since the domain was locked.
And I promise I won’t call you anti-Arab anymore.
Chris: ah, thanks. I added you to the blogroll of my own site btw.
What’s teh longer version?
Saturday, June 2: peace treaty
Except that if its ok for Chris to be called an antisemite, and its ok for mvdg to be called anti-muslim, than its ok for W to be called “Chimpy.”
No that goes too far.
Didn’t you hear about the gorilla who broke out and attacked a visitor?
Don’t piss apes off Kim.
It’s not wise.
Would somebody please pass the crow?… Apologies, as required, to all. I guess we all got our backs up a bit on that one.
your local anti-termite. :]
Ah, peace at TMV.
I was really worried about where the war of words was going to go.
Now, will you boys go off and arrange peace settlements aroung the globe?
Michael,
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll. I’ll update mine when my domain comes back.
What do you mean largely ignored??? I’ve been seeing constant updates about this all over the news. Do you mean cable “news”, if so you shouldn’t because they just plain suck at anything that resembles news now, unless it involves famous people going to jail, falling off the wagon, dying, or just anything about famous people in general LOL.
Don’t forget nonstop coverage of planes that are having difficulty landing because of mechanical problems, natural disasters , missing blondes and hostage situations. Pretty soon all 3 cable news channels will be news free!
Oh crap, I forgot those and the car chases too! LOL
