		<description>I think it is important to note some historical context here.  It is unlikely that the Scandinavian and western European states would have been able to build their peaceful, demilitarized, social welfare states in the absence of U.S. security guarantees during the Cold War and post-Cold War eras.  

While I will concede the legitimacy of many criticisms directed at current U.S. foreign policy, I think the big picture of American contributions to global peace over the LONG term are also relevant.</description>
