This isn’t chauvinistic, but is it Stubborn?

“Despite pressure from some countries for an open selection process, President George W. Bush has insisted that the next World Bank president must be an American, maintaining previous tradition.”

DLS- Bush had to save face after his “boy” was drummed out of the WB in disgrace. He did everything he could to save Wolfie, but in the end no country supported us. Its a humiliation and an indication of our weakened position in these world institutions.

It would be a major shock if Bush agreed to a transparent nominating process of a non-American after that. If he’s forced to accept it, we’ll know he’s really in bad shape. (i guess they don’t want another neocon like Wolfowitz or Bolton)
