An interesting quiz for this holiday weekend.

  1. RON BEASLEY says:

They missed a few tie breakers.
In the south – oil and all
In the Pacific NW – crick and creek
BTW I was west/no accent but I am in Oregon and they didn’t ask the crick – creek question.

  2. dduck says:

Now I know for sure where I am.

  3. PJBFan says:

Well, it hit me right where it was supposed to, i.e. inland North. I’m from Central/Western/Upstate NY. My accent is roughly midwestern with a much flatter, more nasal short a. That was the big thing they missed on my end.

  4. JSpencer says:

Inland North here. Even had me pegged (accurately) to the Great Lakes.

  5. NICK RIVERA says:

Quiz indicates that I have a “Midland” accent, which means–according to the authors of the quiz–that I don’t have an accent.

Given that I was born and raised in southern California, I wonder how many other West Coasters got a similar result.

  6. Rcoutme says:

Nick and I are, apparently, home-buddies! Interesting…since I live in Massachusetts (and was raised here). Of course, when I was in the military I purposely changed my accent because I was getting teased about calling the Army Ahmee.

  7. Jim Satterfield says:

Midland, which is correct. The television comment is accurate if you consider that Walter Cronkite was from a town an hour north and Johnny Carson from Omaha, less than a 3 hour drive away.
