Why We Should Not Be Disappointed in President Obama

Nov 20, 2011 by

Some of us who were drawn and captivated by Obama’s soaring rhetoric and by his “incandescent” charisma during the 2008 presidential elections may feel somewhat disappointed by what we have seen in the past three years.

The gentleman in this 6-minute video, Jake Lamar, tells us quietly, plainly and succinctly why he is not disappointed in President Obama and why he believes that Obama will be more like the President we dreamed of when we voted for him last time — if we re-elect him.

Thanks Dorian, though I’m not going to stop criticizing the President when I think he needs it, it’s nice to be reminded from time-to-time the many good things that he’s accomplished.

And… Considering the obstructive radicalization of the Republican Party it’s pretty incredible that he’s accomplished as much as he has.

He will get my vote next November and the votes of a majority of the American People… There’s no reasonable / rational alternative if you want OUR country to survive.

Edit to add: I look forward to the opinions of those on the right side of the room here… AFTER they watch the video.

I curiously — but not very optimistically –look forward, too…

Well I watched the whole thing. Before he started I figured he would just blame problems on the GOP and for the first couple of minutes I was impressed he gave concrete examples of Obama’s accomplishments. Although I didn’t necessarily agree with his opinions of the accomplishments, they were valid reasons why a liberal might want to support Obama.

After that the last 3 or 4 minutes were pretty much what I predicted, drifting into the usual partisan arguments. Comparing Obama to terrible candidates is not a reason someone should not be disappointed in Obama. It’s saying he’s better than the alternative, which to me reflects a level of disappointment.

What’s there to be disappointed about? Considering Obama’s lack of a resume, it’s really an accomplishment that he’s managed to stay in office without a nervous breakdown. He was really nothing more htan a pretty face and a script-reader before, now he’s a pretty faced script reader who rides on Air Force One-not bad for a guy whose previous record was a combination of wasted potential (1), utter failure(2), and inaction(3).

(1)Harvard Law School, president of the Harvard Law Review-the least-cited year in the Law Review’s history.

    (2) No tenure as a professor, just frequent lecturing with no evidence of lending success to his students, and of course, being a ‘community organizer’ whose community did not benefit from his organizing, and let’s not forget-the guy’s education is as a lawyer graduated from the premier law school…and he’s never passed a BAR exam. Previous executive record administering the Annenberg Project-which did not result in higher test scores for students in project-involved schools, but DID cost over sixty million dollars.

    (3) “Present”-both in the Illinois State Legislature, and in the U.S. Senate. Never the primary on any bill, but he did have a refined sense of when to say “I’d support that” when someone ELSE wrote a bill…occasionally.

Really, you can’t set the bar lower than Barack Obama (the Candidate) in terms of expectation. anything he managed to win on as PRESIDENT is, by definition, an “accomplishment”.

The shame is, if he were of Asian descent, he’d be seen as an abject failure. It’s really too bad racism is so common on both sides of the aisle.

  5. some people may be disappointed, but some not. so this slogan may won’t make an effect.

I don’t like double negatives, “not disappointed” could be: proud off, I agree with, he delivered, he did it, accomplished, etc.
And, I do agree that even though he had the resume outlined above, by CS, he has not done too poorly overall given a rotting ship of state.
However, Lamar, I read about Gandhi and King, and they he ain’t.
