Rick Santorum Should Just Go To Hell

The juxtaposition on The New York Times homepage of a shocking story that the Census Bureau has found that 51 million Americans have incomes less than 50 percent 
above the poverty line and the latest frothings from Little Ricky Santorum was in all likelihood unintentional, but made a big point. Two, in fact.
Point One is that the number of new near poor in the U.S. as the lingering effects of the Bush Recession is much worse than supposed.
Point Two is that Santorum is a self-righteous jerk.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Iowa the day the Census Bureau report was released, the Republican presidential wannabe and helpmate in launching the recession argued that Americans receive too many government benefits and ought to “suffer” in the Christian tradition.
If “you’re lower income, you can qualify for Medicaid, you can qualify for food stamps, you can qualify for housing assistance,” Santorum complained, before adding, “suffering is part of life and it’s not a bad thing, it is an essential thing in life.”
In case you’re wondering, Santorum’s net worth approaches $2 million.

Qualifying for benefits that he wants to cut the money from? Gee, thanks Rick. That’s what I want to do…qualify for benefits that you want to cut. Golly, gee, where do I sign up?
[Disclaimer: I am on SSDI, since it is listed as 'unearned income' (funny, I could have sworn I was paying into that program) I do NOT qualify for food stamps, although Massachusetts has (of and on) allowed my family to qualify for MassHealth (Medicaid), and, of course, I have Medicare (just like nearly all SSDI recipients). I also live in government housing. I am also very, very grateful to the US for helping my family to survive.]
Santorum obviously missed school the day that irony was taught.
Wow, the only thing ol’ Ricky left out was that if the poor were going to die “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” (h/t to Charles Dickens). Here’s hoping he has heart-changing ghostly visitors this Christmas season.
Santorum has always been a narrowminded douchebag. This statement from him doesn’t surprise me at all. The fact he still has supporters out there does.
Santorum doesn’t have the first glimmering of what Jesus was trying to teach. Slamfu is right.
That’s so anti-Christ he may actually be the Antichrist.
