American Icarus: Gonzales Loses More Feathers

The Sun in the Senate grows hotter. Gonzales flies blind, by claiming no memory about critical questions in hearings, a bad omen for a man who is charged with keeping track of important details for an entire nation. The wax holding the feathers in the fake wings, is softening… it appears to be a matter of time

If anyone wonders why the entire Latino ocean in the USA is not pulling itself out to sea in preparation for a huge tidal wave of protest about Alberto Gonzales being treated unfairly …it may be that Attorney General Gonzales doesn’t appear to have what makes for a completely sympathetic figure in Mythos and Legends… the kind ‘the people’ rally behind:

– a history of appreciable true struggle,
– a moderate to high profile in helping others,
– standing up for those who are oppressed
– admired for his compassion, strength of mind and spirit
… before he become an appointee at the court of power.

The American Icarus is fast turning into the Trilby to George Bush’s Svengali. Trilby a woman who could not sing, who was literally tone deaf. The great Svengali hypnotized her, and while in an amnesiac trance, she could sing operatically as though she were a gift from the gods. But at one of her performances, Svengali is stricken with a heart attack, and does not show up to hypnotize her, and her singing falls completely flat, and she is hissed and booed off the stage.

Dr. Estes- if you are trying to say that AG Gonzales is a puppet of the administration, and not the straight arrow type we need at Justice, you will get no argument from me. Now a Hispanic I do admire tremendously? Bill Richardson.

  2. Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés says:

kritter: puppet: good image: In the world of mythos, puppets are alive, but cannot control their lives.

Gov. Richardson: many people out where I live in the Rockies and the Sangre de Cristos like him. He often seems earthy and humor filled, as well as being a politico. He also doesn’t look like K Street, which a lot of people out here seem to like alot.

Yes, he’s probably the most accomplished Hispanic in the country, politically at least. I would like to see him at least get an offer of VP from one of the front-runners, because it would be great to have a pragmatic Westerner with impressive diplomatic skill in the WH. I also think a little diversity at the top of our government wouldn’t hurt. The presidency has been dominated by Protestant middle-aged white men for two hundred years.

Richardson has an incredible record of accomplishments. But he has, er, “personal issues” (i.e., skirt-chasing) and I think that’s the reason he hasn’t broken through into the top tier.

I, personally, don’t mind skirt chasing per se (martial infidelity is a private matter) but the rumors are that he’s a harrasser, too. That I do mind, not least because it means he probably won’t be able to get top-notch women to work with him.

It’s a damned shame, because in every other way he’s so far ahead of everyone else running in terms of experience and achievement.

Oy: of course I meant marital infidelity, not martial.
