Yesterday’s article in “The Guardian” shows that ‘Bubble Boy’ Wolfowitz’s main problem was his ‘bubble’. That, along with his attempt to incorporate ‘NeoCon Strong-arm Techniques’ into the World Bank Playbook, sealed his fate.

Controversial, divisive and tainted by Iraq

Paul Wolfowitz has often been blissfully unaware of the full extent of his unpopularity. That was evident recently when he walked into a lift at the World Bank headquarters in Washington with another member of staff.

Making small talk, he asked her the significance of the blue ribbon she was wearing. The employee bravely told him it was being worn by staff seeking his dismissal or resignation. The lift ride continued in silence.

More significant in the longer run was his decision to link aid to anti-corruption measures. His predecessors had done this too but not as forcefully. The problem for Mr Wolfowitz was that the policy appeared to be applied in a selective way, with aid withheld from countries out of favour with the US and distributed to its allies.

Steve K – You mean you don’t believe the WSJ- that he wuz framed by European powers to cover up their own corruption? Just like Libby, Bolton and all of the other right-wing neocons who have tried to ram American preeminance down the throats of the rest of the world. The rest of the world has joined the liberal Democrats and the terrorists, and just have it out for George Bush because they hate America and hate our freedoms.8)

    kritter – No, I don’t. :-]

I do, however, believe the weatherman when he said that it’ll be pushing 80 today. I hope your weekend has a liberal dose of sunshine, too… I’m going golfing.
