Osama bin Laden: The truth behind the SEAL raid? Five bombshells in New Book

Chuck Pfarrer, a former Navy SEAL, who commanded the “same outfit” that carried out the strike on the Al Qaeda leader, has a new book out on the killing of Osama bin Laden titled Seal Target Geronimo: The Inside Story of the Mission to Kill Osama Bin Laden. In it, he says he wants to eliminate some myths about the operation. Here are five “bombshells” in the new book. It’s likely some of his assertions will be controversial and disputed. The Pentagon has already challenged some of them.

Bombshells? There are no bombshells here. Just somebody nit-picking claims and speculation of the talking heads.

Take bombshell #1. Pfarrer says, “There is the perception this was always a “kill mission.” No there isn’t. I’ve heard a few people speculate that it “might have been” a kill mission, but the impression that I was left with was that most likely the orders were what Pfarrer calls a “capture mission”. Essentially unless bin Laden had thrown up his hands and said, “Don’t shoot! I surrender!”, they were free to blow him away.

Furthermore, who cares whether it was a kill mission or not? The handling of Musab al-Zarqawi (laser guided bombs to his living room) proves that we are not afraid to employee kill missions when necessary. So even if all parts of this claim were true, why would it be considered a bombshell?

Calling any of this stuff “bombshells” is just a clever way of selling books.

I couldn’t agree more. I love it when people make arguments to assertions that they just made up themselves.

This guy didn’t actually command the mission that killed Osama bin Laden, (that is if bin Laden is actually dead). This is like second hand assumptions based on previous and very general experiences. I expect the book to be a whole heck-of-a-lot of non-information. Or, misinformation designed for counter intelligence purposes. Geez guys, can’t ya be less obvious?

Though it is a revelation to me that Disney tried to copyright or tried to obtain a patent for “seal team 6”. More evidence of American Corporate greed beyond the pale in my opinion. Somehow I must have missed that story.

I’m dubious of this book. I question the authenticity of the quoted sources. Honestly, I don’t think we’ll know the truth for many years.
