A Panel on Humanitarian Intervention

On April 30, a panel sponsored by The Euston Manifesto (of which I am a signatory) of leading UK Ministers, MPs, and thinkers met in the Houses of Parliament to discuss the future of humanitarian intervention, after the conflict in Iraq. Discussion topics included the recent crisis in both Darfur and also Somalia, the failure of the Left to deal with the arguments surrounding the promotion of democracy and international law, and the future for intervention.

The panel speakers included:

  • Hilary Benn MP, Minister for International Development and a candidate for the Labour party deputy leadership.
  • Pat McFadden MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the UK Cabinet Office.
  • Professor Brian Brivati, Professor of Contemporary History and Human Rights at Kingston University.

I’ve embedded YouTube clips featuring Cohen and Benn. Other clips can be found here.
