Unexciting Democratic Primary Debate Shows Promising and Unpromising Candidates »
Apropos Mike’s post on the Blackfacing of Hillary Clinton, I’d bring up my post condemning a liberal Black blogger for blackfacing former Maryland Lt. Governor and Republican Senate candidate Michael Steele.
There is so little redeeming value to blackfacing that I fail to see any circumstance where it is justified. It isn’t being “reclaimed” here. It isn’t being used to undermine racism. It’s being used to demean and degrade. I have no sympathy for people who use it.
I agree, wholeheartedly. Well said!
This is probably old news, but this handy chart shows when it is appropriate to use blackface on your blog. http://www.ebogjonson.com/archives/2006/09/should_i_use_bl.php
Crut,
That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.
Perfect example of Political correctness in action.
Hillary is laughing because it actually helps her campaign. Make fun of her black roots and ties and that strengthens her candidacy.
But I love the chart. This is the political correctness mantra now.
We have to have flow charts in order to carry on a conversation about anything now.
David- Um, I don’t think blackfacing has any redeeming value no matter which side does it, BUT, the link does not show Michael Steele with exaggerated features. The picture is an accurate depiction of what he looks like- There is a Sambo reference though!
Kim,
There’s a note above the picture indicating that it’s been changed.
Well that explains it, CS, LOL! As usual I rushed through reading it.
Ah, well, stick with me, Kim, and you’ll continue to learn to read more carefully.
CS- Sure will do- as long as I don’t find myself converted to conservatism, LOL.
nobody dude! it’s not”political correctness” that requires the blackface chart. I run through through the decison chain outlined in that chart instanteously. YOU’RE the one who needs the remedial materials in order to have a basic conversation about race. That isn’t about political correctness but about the fundamental disconnect some of us have.
