Giuliani’s Immigration Plan: Good, Realistic and Humane

Interesting: where Giuliani, as mayor of New York, championed the cause of legal immigrants and often defended illegal immigrants, ‘he now talks of penalties for people […] illegally [in the US] and requirements for them to wait at the back of the line. And while he once pushed policies like providing schooling for the children of illegal immigrants by saying, “The reality is that they are here, and they’re going to remain here, now he emphasizes denying amnesty.’

His aides describe this development as a “shift in tone, explaining that “his basic thinking has not changed, but that his emphasis has shifted to reflect the times.

Anthony V. Carbonetti, a senior political adviser who has worked with Mr. Giuliani for 15 years, said: “Immigration reform has to begin with border security because we are a nation at war. He is still very proud that people want to come to this country.

More and more Republicans / Republican voters want Giuliani to make clear where he stands on immigration these days. Does he want to, effectively and aggressively, fight illegal immigration, or does he still favor the policies he favored when he was mayor of New York?

That’s interesting. It seems like each of the top three Republican presidential candidates have had a “shift in toneâ€? with regards to issues that are important to the Republicans’ conservative base.

I wonder why no one is writing about the Democratic candidates’s immigration policy proposals? Is it because all of them support open borders because it benefits the Democratic Party and very few in the MSM really want to write than story?

I wonder why no one ask Edwards how it helps the working class of the U.S. to have open border? I wonder why no one ask Senator Obama how it helps working class blacks to have open borders?

Democrats refuse to make clear anything they stand for. They are and always have been finger in the wind Politicians. That is why I am begrudgingly starting to admire Hillary Clinton. At least she is putting our her version of solutions and saying here it is. Obama is just smiling and racking in the money while offering nothing but sound bites.

    Yes.

    Yes.

Or is it a figment of your fevered imagination?

It took me less than 30 seconds to find over 450 news articles in which Obama either discusses his immigration plans or they are described by the author.

In even less time I found over 650 strories discussing Clinton’s policy proposals.

And suppose you noticed this entire posting is on the subject of Rudy refusing to define his own plan.

Both Republicans and Democrats want amnesty for illegal immigrants. The republicans want it because they’ve sold their souls to big business who wants cheap labor. The democrats want it since most latino immigrants will register and vote democratic. And neither party cares who gets screwed over in the process…the Amercian people.

    Davebo,

If you look at http://origin.barackobama.com/issues/ immigration is missing. However, free government healthcare for everyone is there. I wonder how Senator Obama is going to reconcile free healthcare, expanding free schools, land iving wages (free money) with unlimited immigration? I doubt he even tries.

When Hillary or Edwards turn the health care system into a Euorpeanized, mediocre type hospital system, will Elizabeth Edwards go to a government hospital for her cancer? The next time Bill Clinton needs heart surgery, will he? Or will they both continue to get the finest private care?
