Did anyone else notice that the cartoonist made all of the characters white. Does anyone believe that it is white middle class America who is ignoring Virgnia Tech. That is the demographic who most closely associates with the college students.
There are several white middle class members who are rabid fans of that show, S.D.., and entertainment gossip shows (and “reality” shows, and other silly stuff like “Survivor”).
How do you think the fan base for all those things could be so large?
BTW, do you have anything here expressing sympathy with the mourners? If I missed it, please point it out to me. If I didn’t miss it, would it be that much trouble?
The Drybones cartoon is also one on the Cagle list of cartoons this site can use. It just hasn’t been posted yet but will run tomorrow. Also, I tell people if you don’t like one cartoon you might like another. We’re posting a variety although some on the left and right we’re passing on posting for varying reasons. On balance we post two or three a day.
Not a cartoon (unfortunately, he is a living, breathing United States Senator), but, in the spirit of humor, here’s the latest from Joltin’ Joe Biden……
“I would argue, since 1994 with the Gingrich revolution, just take a look at Iraq, Venezuela, Katrina, what’s gone down at Virginia Tech, Darfur, Imus. Take a look. This didn’t happen accidentally, all these things,” he said.
superdestroyer, mike lester is a conservative cartoonist with very strong opinions (as you can probably tell) about “trash culture”. His characters are mostly white, though he does make some of them black, and not always just because it’s a race specific issue, which makes him, in that sense, more “equal opportunity” than most cartoonists. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen asians or latinos in his cartoons, save when they were indispensable for the theme.
I doubt there was any intent behind the race choice. I also doubt (call me an optimist) that much of anyone in America is more heartbroken about Sanjaya (who I have blissfully never seen or heard) than they are about VT.
Let’s be honest. There is a class of American citizen that avoids the news like the Black Death. They do not read newspapers or news magazines. They do not watch CNN, Fox, MSNBC or even their local news. They do not vote. The only news they might watch or read consists of entertainment news and the only other news they are aware of is what creeps into that type of news because of a cause that a celebrity adopts or what strikes enough of a chord in the public mind that they hear of it by word of mouth. That’s the kind of people the Lester cartoon is aimed at.
DLS I bet the demographics favor the incompetents who voted in W. The Idol show is big with the suburban mall crowd, they don’t even know who the McLaughlinGroup is. Is it a new featured sandwich at McDee’s?

even more inaccurately, is the male to female “fan” ratio depicted at 2 to 1.
More accurate would be a sea of women. Sanjaya had no “male” fans, save for the faux-fans Stern created for a few weeks.
Although, belittle him as much as you want, I suspect he will out-earn a cartoonist handily.

Since you guys like cartoons so much, here’s one with a slightly different and much more pertinent message.

And an article about the parallel as drawn in that cartoon.

Whats a Sanjaya?

> They do not vote.
If true, it’s a Democratic Party outreach project!
I tell you, the Dims should have ads on that show.
