During Cho’s 2-Hour Break…

UPDATE: NBC News is broadcasting some of the footage NOW.

During Cho’s 2-hour break between murder sprees, he mailed a multimedia ‘manifesto’ to NBC News. NBC received the package this morning and turned it over to the FBI.

Capus said gloved NBC security personnel handled the package very carefully as soon as it arrived. The network immediately called the FBI and turned it over.

The package bore a U.S. Postal Service stamp recording that it had been received at a Virginia post office at 9:01 a.m. ET Monday, about an hour and 45 minutes after Cho shot two people in the West Ambler Johnston residence hall on the Virginia Tech campus and shortly before Cho entered Norris Hall, where he killed 30 more people.

“We probably would have received the mail earlier had it not been that he had the wrong address and ZIP code, Capus said.

Among the materials are 23 QuickTime video files showing Cho talking directly to the camera, Capus said. He does not name anyone specifically, but he talks at length about religion and his hatred of the wealthy.

The production of the videos indicated that Cho had worked on the package for some time, because he not only “took the time to record the videos, but he also broke them down into snippets that were embedded paragraph by paragraph into the main document, Capus said.

I look at the photo of himself with the gun to his head and can’t help but shout “Do it!”

im amazed he didnt upload anything to youtube or livelinks, like that kid in germany did

also kinda shocked that he didnt have a myspace

and i do question nbc’s timing in playing the vid now…why not wait a bit?

i really hope this wakes up america to our mental health care needs…but columbine didnt…so why should this

no, its easier for the right wing pundits to scream about putting more guns into the hands of college students, and talking to us about evil…and for left wingers to call for more gun laws

here is a fact…the kid was put on a 72 hour hold in 05, but for some reason, he was allowed to voluntarily commit…virginia needs to change that

here in california…a 72 hour hold, is a 72 hour hold…and he never wouldve passed the security check

That comment says nothing as it is too vague. What do you advocate. forced hospitalization of the mentally ill? Who makes the determination?
Some situations may be obvious. But if the person commits no crime I jus don’t see how you can take them out of the general population. The law suits would be endless .

It’s interesting how to see how the media obsesses about the motives and background of this Cho creature. Yet nary a word is heard about what motivates suicide bombers in the Middle East.

  5. Rudi says:

G Weightman Your just as delusional as LittleDebbieSchlussel and Hannity, conflating terrorism to a mentally ill college student is absurd. You probably have LittleDebster on your fav list.

I was merely questioning the disinclination of the press to psychoanalyze one variety of mass murderer and not another. Perhaps it muddies the respective messages, i.e., Bush bad; gun control good.

When I was in Seattle there was a story on guns (the media love to demonize them, even if they get their entertainment by occasionally going to a shooting range to film “what they can do” while the reporter often does the shooting) and one show featured one kid that had been selected because he was playing with less than a full deck, let’s just say. He had guns and was asked about them and he made one or two alarming remarks, then had this sick look on his face (I believe he was talking about carrying a gun on his person) and said, “I’m not looking for any trouble — but if anyone wants to start something…” and started nodding his head up and down, obviously wanting something to be started.

Needless to say, within hours the police had a not-so-friendly visit with this character.

Especially if he’s so worthless he can’t even point a baseball cap in the right direction. *scowl*
