Mary Ann Akers reports that “Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the most liberal of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primary field, declared in a letter sent to his Democratic House colleagues this morning that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.
Dennis Kucinich has had the correct take on this so called “War on Terror” since the first day. He pulls no punches. You must give credit to probably the one politician who has been absolutely correct from day one….regardless of the nay-sayers pounding on him mercilessly. He has my respect.
Kucinich is merely showing the same far-left behavior he always has shown. *snicker*
Well this is a really spurious attempt at drumming up support and sets a dangerous tradition. Our Politicians are becoming Impeachment happy.
As a Neoconservative I was appalled that we went after Clinton. I was equally appalled that the Democrats went after Cheney and Rove and snagged Libby. Libby will be pardoned by Bush on the last day of his stay in office and ultimately you Gained nothing.
Whose Next. When the Democrats take the reins this is going to continue. The republicans will then go after anyone and everyone.
And this is such a crock. But if you keep demanding it by God you will be paid back in spades in return. Keep that in mind when you blather your Impeachment BS. Especially when these politicians have an army of lawyers advising them on everything they say, every move they make to insure they do not do something Impeachable.
So, DLS- I take it that you were not appalled that Cheney went after Wilson and snagged Plame??? That her operations in the arena of ME nuclear proliferation, which involved hundreds of foreign operatives and had taken years to set up, were effectively dismantled at the worst possible time? How concerned could the administration have been about WMD’s if it chose to out a top agent in that line of work???
And the Democrats didn’t start the investigation- they were out of power- the CIA requested it. Ashcroft stepped aside due to conflict-of-interest and appointed Fitzgerald. Both solid Republicans. BTW, if Libby had not “thrown sand” in the eye of the investigation, he would have given up Cheney. Fitzgerald would have had to put Cheney under oath, and then an impeachable offense would have occurred. Fitz knows it. That’s why Libby was convicted.

Hahaha…oh come on, Kritter…now Plame was the mastermind behind the West’s anti-proliferation? Rubbish. Cue the dramatic music: “Hundreds of foreign operatives” all “dismantled at the worst possible time.”
As with many on the Left, you try to build Plame up as a crusading super-patriot…on the verge of calling her friends in the Justice League of America, and flying on Wonder Woman’s invisible plane with Superman and Green Lantern, she was going to take out those Iranian nukes…..all before the evil Rove-Cheney forces backstabbed her.
As for Kucinich, this is basic impeachment politics. It’s shite when the GOP does it, and its shite when the Democrats do it.
If you look back, you can find the Democrats have a great love for impeachment. Long before Clinton, they were desperately trying to impeach Reagan. Here is a piece from the Washington Post I left at Michael’s blog, about how in 1983 Conyers — yes, the Conyers liberals love for his righteous indignation at Bush and Gonzales — wanted to impeach Reagan…on the basis of unemployment during the early 80s recession.
Politics. Pure partisan politics.
1. “We’ll see a Kucinich Administration before we’ll see a Cheney impeachmentâ€? is what most sensible people believe, even the Democrat who was quoted here.

I have contempt for that and it may be an impeachable offense, K.
The point is that Kucinich has been a far-left nut case about the war since the beginning and he’s simply continuing that behavior. Only the far left have consistently been on the crazy course. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kucinich wanted to hire Ramsey Clark as prosecutor and have Noam Chomsky appear as an “expert witness,” or Sean Penn *snicker*.
And I won’t neglect wondering if this wasn’t being to boost Kucinich’s otherwise-never-will-achieve-anything campaign.
Get the serious people involved. And most do not want to try impeachment and risk its becoming routine when we have “divided government,” and there’s also the problem that the Democrats are merely anti-Bush at this point and risk backlash in 2008 if they were to press for impeachment.
Leave it to the cartoon characters (and Kucinich), who discredit any impeachment effort greatly.

“Bush administration seems hell-bent on testing Congress’s limits”
http://baltimorechronicle.com/2007/041807Lindorff.shtml
Let Kucinich convince the Democrats in Congress first to echo his call and then we’ll take the subject up as something other than a generally ignored “candidate” trying to generate some press coverage.
Marlowe- that was Plame’s sworn testimony before Congress- Cheney and his gang destroyed her lifework- which was looking for WMD’s in Iraq with the help of a network of foreign agent. I guess we won’t hear Cheney’s side since he has never been sworn in. We did hear Libby, which is why there’s a perjury and obstruction conviction, LOL.
BTW- Conyers is not the Democratic Party- which is why there was never an impeachment vote for Reagan. He did, however, commit impeachable offenses in Iran-Contra but managed to let his underlings pay the price. Or do you think its ok to illegally sell arms to our enemy? Nancy Pelosi was accused by Republicans of treason just for talking – and it wasn’t even to Iran-but to Syria. Somehow, Republican presidents like Reagan, Nixon and W, believe an act becomes legal once they do it.
Kucinich usually goes by his conscience. I think it is a bit of grandstanding at this point, unless they can prove impeachable offenses by Cheney. It shouldn’t be that hard to do, but I’m not sure with 18months left in his term that its worth the effort. Lets wait and see what Tenet’s book reveals.
commit impeachable offenses in Iran-Contra but managed to let his underlings pay the price.
This is always funny to me. Ronald Reagan tried everything to win Hostages freedom including selling them guns to help fight Hussein and all the democrats wanted to do was screw the hostages and impeach Reagan.
Now they can’t wait to impeach Bush or Cheney.
Are you catching the pattern here Kritter?
Then why lie about it, Nobody? Why didn’t he tell Congress what he was up to? Don’t you think they would have supported any efforts to free them?
And in truth- he was a superb Cold Warrior- because he was able to take the opportunity made available by other administrations’ policies and by the USSR’s losing war in Afghanistan to him to break up the Soviet empire. But he armed and trained the “freedom fighters”-the jihadists- in Afghanistan- because he could only see that dichotomy. He missed the rising tide of terrorism in the ME- I believe Carter did this as well.
And BTW, Pelosi said pointedly that she is not interested in impeaching Bush. The Cheney vote won’t get much support either- as Kucinich is the most liberal guy in the House.
See, its much more fun to have all these hearings and slowly roast them over the fire as they self-destruct, taking the GOP’s prospects for ’08 with them. Why bother with impeachment? Its legally possible but politically messy and too time-consuming.

I will agree to this to a point. No one can forsee the future. No matter what Bush would have done in 2003 it would have been wrong. The democrats would make sure of that. Its called politics. Its called getting elected. The way to insure getting elected is to Bash the opponents brains out.
The democrats plan is to never talk about having a plan but to bash Bush/republicans mindlessly.
They seriously do not have a plan and expect the American public to buy this for the next 2 years.
Well its not going to happen. Americas may not be smart but they aint dumb. You have to have something to offer. Pretty soon they are going to catch on to this mindless Bush Bashing.
Cheney and Bush have many impeachable offenses:
1) They are war criminals (many thousands are dead because of the war they started)
2) war profiteers (they have extracted billions from the American people)
3) They violated UN resolutions (went to war despite UN objections)
4) They violated the Geneva convention (tortured prisoners of war).
5) They violated their oath of office to uphold the constitution by spying on American citizens and by lying to the American people about weapons of mass destruction
These offenses are the tip of the iceberg, If one did enough digging I suspect one could find many more impeachable offenses.
Whatever the issue Dennis Kucinich has a history of doing the work before presenting his case. He doesn’t make bold statements without just cause and he never makes false accusations.
He listens to the voice of the American people and he boldly responds despite criticism from his political peers. Unlike his peers he is not beholden to the special interests of American corporations.
Thank you Jim for actually adressing the issue here. Why it is that everyone wants to spin this story into a Democratic party move to “play politics”, or a Kucinich attempt to gain notoriety, or redirecting people to the ridiculousness of impeachment (setting a dangerous tradition”).
The point is, impeachment is the final recourse to control executive power when it has overstepped its bounds into illegal territory and this administration has probably done enough of that. I say probably because I haven’t seen the case for impeachment yet, but again; here I agree with Jim. Kucinich is not one to play party politics and is very comfortable with standing up for what he believes will most benefit the people.
Examples go all the way back to his refusal to privatize utilities in Cleveland, a move that cost him his job, but now is viewed as a wise and courageous move-the city now honoring him for doing so. Then to his stance on Iraq, the only candidate who originally opposed the war. And now with his support of a true universal healthcare, single payer, system. Again; the only candidate willing to stand up to the corporate private insurance industry that make billions in profit and wields enough influence to ensure that no other candidate will propose cutting them out.
Kucinich doesn’t have a tie to special interests. Can you name another? Before you do check out the figures at http://www.opensecrets.com to research campaign financing.
And Kucinich doesn’t propose a something without proper planning and a well reasoned approach. You can go to Kucinich.US to see his detailed plans on Iraq, Healthcare and other issues.
There is a growing movement of people that know the facts and Dennis is one of those people that take the oath to defend the Constitution seriously. This link has the list of crimes committed by the Vice President
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/cheney
George Bush and Dick Cheney have lied the nation into a war of aggression, are spying in open violation of the law, and have sanctioned the use of torture. These are high crimes and misdemeanors that demand accountability. Since Congress doesn’t seem to get it, on April 28 Americans from Miami, Florida to North Pole, Alaska are going to spell it out for them: IMPEACH!
Where will you be on April 28th?

The Best Reasons Not to Impeach, And Why They’re Wrong
http://smirkingchimp.com/thread/3772
I have pasted below the one you all NEED to read and understand
“Impeachment will make the Democrats lose in 2008.”
The historical record suggests that this is all wrong. When the Democrats held back from impeachment during Iran Contra, they lost the next elections. And many of the people they failed to go after came back in the form of the Bush Jr. Administration to make life hell for the Democrats and the rest of us. When the Democrats led the effort to investigate and impeach Nixon, they won big in the next election, even though Ford was running as an incumbent. When the Republicans tried to impeach Truman, they got what they wanted out of the Supreme Court and then won the next elections. Articles of Impeachment have been filed against nine presidents, usually by Republicans, and usually with electoral success following. When the Republicans impeached Clinton, impeachment was actually unpopular with the public. Even so, the Republicans lost far fewer seats than is the norm for a majority party at that point in its tenure. Two years later, they lost seats in the Senate, which had acquitted, but maintained their strength in the House, with representatives who had led the impeachment charge winning big. Voters appreciate efforts to push for a cause. Cowardice and restraint are not very popular.

[...] Kucinich is trying to impeach Cheney. Hillary Clinton [...]
It’s about time people start seriously discussing impeachment, probably of the whole administration, but Cheney is a good start. When compared to a zipper, the damage done to this country and Iraq make the zipper incident almost a virtue. Please proceed.
Of course you have to get Cheney first.. If we impeach Bush, Cheney would be president. We would quickly become the united states of halliburton.
